A Deeper Dive Into Options Education…

Let’s do a deeper investigation of the providers on the comparison chart.

The chart plus my following written reviews will help you to pick 2 or 3 educators for further study.

oic logo

When I landed on OIC’s website I was immediately confident. They provide options seminars, videos, podcasts, literature, and live support from options education professionals.

There mission statement is…”To increase the awareness, knowledge and responsible use of exchange-listed equity options among a global audience of investors—including individuals, financial advisors and institutional managers—by providing independent, unbiased education and practical knowledge.”

The options trading training offered by OIC is the top non-commercial program in America.

It’s impressive that all their (unbiased) courses are 100% free of charge.

cboe logo

The educational arm of the Chicago Options Exchange (CBOC) is the Options Institute. It is over thirty years old and has reached the gold standard of options trader education. They offer training for beginners and advanced traders. The range of programs covers all levels of options trading. Programs start with basic options fundamentals to complex options trading strategies.

The Options Institute professionals help students apply new knowledge. They learn to reduce risk, generate income, manage volatility and protect their capital.

They don’t rely on outdated programs. The institute introduces new concepts and competencies as market conditions change.

Their courses and other program features are all 100% free.

online trading academy logo

The Online Trading Academy pitch says you can get free options trading schooling through their program. Their partners (brokers/dealers) offer tuition rebates. The ‘rebates’ are in the form of reduced commissions when you trade through them. So if you are an active trader “the eventual cost of your stock market courses could be $0”.

But you still have to pay the 5 day course fee of $5,000 up front… then you earn it back.

Their program is expensive. But they are the only options trading educator reviewed by Investopedia. This gives them credibility. The live course work is intensive. It’s 5 full days covering a comprehensive set of options trading subjects. There are also ten 3 hour online sessions.

If you need good trading instruction in a short time (and can afford the up-front $5,000), choose Online Trading Academy.

alpha7 trading academy logo

Do you study well on your own? Do you want the flexibility of online coursework any time of the day without a fixed duration? Then Alpha 7 is for you.

Alpha 7 Trading has a good selection of courses covering 4 achievement levels. They are all online and on-demand.

There is regular student support through telephone, emails, webinars. A live chat facility let’s students interact. Although, this may not be a great advantage since everyone is working at their own level and pace.

The price of training at the high end is up to $4,000. But dedicated students may get trading jobs. They will work for the funds that provide the professionals who oversee their lessons.

optiontiger logo

Option Tiger is a simple approach to teaching options trading delivered through Udemy. Udemy is an online marketplace for anyone to take or teach a course on anything).

The Option Tiger website tells you in detail what you get with every course, and what you’ll be able to do with it.

I like the bundling of the the courses in in packages that will get you to a certain level of expertise. The cost of individual course is just $49, so not a big investment to sample. Other packages range from $99/month to $199/month (for weekly coursework and other extras).

For someone on a budget, who wants solid training without any financial risk, this may be the answer.

sheridan option mentoring logo

The Sheridan on-line programs appear to few in number (15 total). But the coursework has 6 to 8 hour ‘classes’ in each. The class descriptions details are clear. I noticed the Chicago Board Options Exchange website says Sheridan delivers some CBOE programs. This wins Sheridan a lot of credibility.

Although credible, their coursework is limited to on-line presentation style programs. They mention one-on-one mentoring which they charge for, but the website didn’t discuss fees.

Sheridan is a good value-for-money options trading educator. They are worth a try at only $197 – $397 for each program (with several classes each).

options animal logo

At first glance the graphic presentation of Options Animal’s website looks professional and inviting. Then I realized you must ‘apply’ for membership. They force potential students to complete 18 multiple-choice and long-answer online questionnaire. I’m not sure what their process is after that…presumably you wait until they approve of you.

Options Animal appears to provide about 20 options trading courses. But I guess visitors can’t learn about the course details until they answer the 18 questions for membership.

The other information completely missing from their website is pricing. I again presume a prospective student will learn the fees after applying for membership.

option easy logo

The Option Easy site was not that ‘easy’ to get detailed information on course content.

A chart on the site depict about 25 courses. They package courses into 6 bundles that range in prices. They start from $997 for a set of online courses to $1997/year for more advanced courses.

They also have an options trading simulator.

market taker mentoring logo

The Market Taker site has a lot of ‘Enroll Now’ buttons on the bottom of the course information page. It made me squirm because I hadn’t yet discovered how my options trading needs will be met.

The coursework appears to be a series of 45 minute seminars attended live once weekly at a fixed broadcast time. The voice recordings are also available for review at anytime. There is little to describe the content, with only the titles listed for the next of the sessions.

You pay monthly at $299 or bundled 6 or 12 months together for an appropriate discounted fee ($1,250 & $2,000). If this sort of training works for you, I suggest trying it for $299 for one month. Then see what you think before you commit to a longer period.

options university logo

Options University presents a list of 10 online options trading courses (depicted in images as DVDs).

There are minimal details about the contents of each course, which range from $49 to $349.

Wrap-Up

"choose the best options education"

As I mentioned, the 10 options trading educators listed are the best based on my comprehensive Google search.

There is a significant range in the quality and quantity of courses and the supporting mechanisms. The program fees for options trading education range from ‘free’ to as much as $5,000 for high quality programs. There also appears to be some good online trading education programs that are affordable.

The purpose of your training is to launch you further along the road to options trading success. I hope the research provided here makes your choice easier.

Be cautious and spend your time and money well.

Good luck as an options trading entrepreneur!
