15 Year Old, Zion Mayo Launches Baseball and Beyond, Crowd Fund Campaign

Great-great-great nephew of New York Yankee, Joe Dimaggio sets up his own non-profit foundation

Online PR News – 24-March-2017 – San Francisco bay area baseball player and entrepreneur, Zion Mayo recently launched his ‘Baseball and Beyond’ crowd fund campaign, his publicist announced today. The teen was picked from thousands of 16 and under baseball players to play for the USA in the Orlando Cepeda Caribbean Classic. The tournament takes place in the Dominican Republic this July.

The Pittsburg High School sophomore is pulling garbage & recycling bins to the curb for an entire city block on Wednesday nights, replacing/building a fence for an elderly woman with his grandfather, and making gift bags with his grandmother for the homeless. However, he doesn’t charge for his services. Zion says he wants to set an example for his peers, contribute to his community, and position himself as an entrepreneur.

“He’s very busy with academics and athletics,” stated his grandmother, Elizabeth Webber Schmidt who helps Zion manage his enterprises. “He is dedicated to his volunteer hours, school, and his baseball. He needs to take care of his travel and other expenses so I suggested that he start a crowd funding page.”

That made sense to Zion. If his campaign is fully funded, he’ll not only be able to meet the international travel, food and lodging expenses, he’ll be able to set up his own non-profit foundation. He is committed to inspiring youth to take actions that benefit their community as he does. His mission is to facilitate relaxing opportunities for youth and the adults in their lives to work together.

“His poise, amazing athletic ability and extraordinary optimism have been apparent to his teachers, family and strangers, alike,” stated Fran Briggs, Publicist to Zion Mayo. “This is a strong appeal to give to a youth who freely gives personal time, talent and energy to serve others who need assistance. Zion is a leader and truly deserves the backing of all his supporters.”

His signature initiative, “Baseball and Beyond” also aims to fill a financial void for other players who are challenged by the expenses to the Dominican Republic in July.

Friendly, extremely polite and easy-going Zion Mayo is from a talented baseball family. He is the great grandson of one of the best female baseball & softball players to ever play both games; Joanne Dimaggio. And, he’s the great-great-great nephew of the world renowned, New York Yankee All-star, Joe Dimaggio.

The teen announced that there will also be a drawing for a baseball signed by Zion’s late, great uncle, Joe Dimaggio. Every supporter who donates $35 or more will be entered. Winner will be announce April 22, 2017.
